HLTAID009 – Provide CPR

This nationally accredited unit will help equip you with the skills and confidence to respond to an emergency situation, perform CPR procedures, communicate details of the incident, and review the incident, in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines and other Australian national peak clinical bodies. Whether you’re an employee, parent, teacher, or community member, first aid and resuscitation training is a crucial life skill that can save lives.

Delivery Method

Training delivered via Online distance self-paced learning and face to face training and assessment.

When you book a first aid course with us, the date you select is for the face-to-face practical session. Upon booking, you will receive immediate access to our Learning Management System (LMS) to complete the knowledge evidence component. Our courses are delivered in two parts: online knowledge evidence and face-to-face practical evidence.

Knowledge Evidence: This component is completed online via our LMS at your own pace and in your own time. It covers the theoretical aspects of first aid, such as understanding key concepts and terminology. You must complete the knowledge evidence at least 12 hours before your scheduled face-to-face practical session to be eligible to attend.

Practical Evidence: The face-to-face practical session takes place on your booked date and is delivered by our experienced veteran and emergency service instructors. During this hands-on session, you will apply your knowledge through interactive lessons, demonstrations, walk-through talk-throughs, and practical assessments. This ensures you develop the skills needed to perform first aid effectively in real-world scenarios.

Upon successful completion of both the knowledge and practical evidence components, you will receive your first aid qualification. Our delivery method is designed to be flexible, engaging, and compliant with the 2025 Standards for Registered Training Organisations, ensuring a high-quality learning experience.

Course Duration

This course is designed to be completed in 2 days (1 day pre-course learning, and one day of face-to-face training and assessment)

Typical learners are expected to spend 6 hours on this course depending on existing knowledge, skills, and experience. (4 hours pre-course, 2 hours face-to-face)

Course structure

All learners will be assessed through:

Scenario based assessments
practical skills demonstration assessments
Questioning - written or verbal
Observation in a simulated environment
Online knowledge assessments

Resources Required

Valkyrie First Aid will ensure students have access to the following:

Reading materials and assessment workbook
Adult, child, and infant resuscitation manikins following ARC guidelines for the purpose of assessment of CPR procedures
AED training devices
Personal protective equipment (PPE)

To complete the course students will need access to the following:

A computer with internet access with a reliable speed of at least 5mbps
Google Chrome (recommended browser)
MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel or equivalent applications
Adobe Acrobat reader or equivalent applications

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Due to the nature of this unit and ARC guidelines, learners must complete the unit via the Learning and Assessment Pathway or Assessment Only Pathway (Refresher). Therefore, RPL is not offered for this course.

Entry Requirements

There are no pre- requisites to enter this training program. However, Valkyrie First Aid screens students according to the following criteria:

Are 14 years of age and over
Have basic computer skills
Have sound Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills*
Must have the physical capacity to perform practical demonstrations, such as 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor.

*Learners who do not meet the LLN requirements of the course may still enrol into the course provided the enrolment has been endorsed by the trainer and corresponding additional support strategies have been put in place.
